Pune RTO Help

I am writing this article to help few who want to get their bike/car transferred to Pune. I have collected all this information in the effort to get my car registered in Pune.

1. There are two RTO offices in Pune district (PMC/PCMC), you need to get your vehicle registered in your respective RTO office (depending upon the area of your residence).

2. First step is to pay octroi (If your vehicle is new (less than 1 year)) at various "naka's" set up at the municipal corporation's boundaries.

3. Currently Octroi charge is 2% of your vehicle's ex-showroom price.

4. You might also have to pay sales tax difference if the tax paid in other state is less than rate applicable in Maharashtra.

5. Next, you will have to visit your respective RTO office to complete the RTO formalities with the following documents:
              a. All original documents of your vehicle
              b. Registered rent agreement ( which is a crumblesome process as you will have to visit
court along with your land lord and might take a day or two)
              c. In case you are not able to obtain a registered rent agreement, don't worry a Notarised rent agreement will do
              d. Police verification proof to be obtained form nearest police station ( only if you dont have a registered rent agreement)
              e. Electricity bill of your residence
              f. Address/Employment proof from your employer
              g. NOC from original city* ( which will cost around Rs. 400-500)

6. Fill the registration form( to be obtained from RTO office) and attach all the above documents

7. Once the form is verified by a RTO inspector for completeness and authenticity, he will make an entry in his register

8. Now you will have to pay the road tax which is currently 7% of (ex-showroom price + octroi)

9. Next step is to get the vehicle verified by a senior rto inspector who will attest the form

10. Once your form is complete you will have to pay a registration charge of Rs. 60/300 (bike/car)

11. Next step is the number allotment, which is done at a different counter ( you may opt for a premium number by paying a fee ranging from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 50,000)

12. Once your number is allotted your work is done at the rto office

13 Your smart card (RC Book) will be sent to your address in 2-3 months time , alternately you can again visit RTO office and get it from there in 15-20 days time.

Note: *NOC is required if you plan to settle in Pune permanently. In case you obtain NOC your registration from original state is canceled and you will be issued a new number (MH 12/14) in Pune. Alternatively you can drive your vehicle with your original number just by paying road tax in Pune, which is absolutely legal. Occasionally police might stop you seeing your number but you can show them the tax receipt, which is acceptable.
